Karin Jones, Founder and President

Karin was born in Frankfurt, Germany and came to America twenty two years ago as a newly married. She settled down in Orange County with her family in 1995.

Her vision for "On a Wing and a Prayer Ministries", was inspired by her own personal experience at a battered women's shelter, as well as her passion for the homeless and forgotten population of Orange and Los Angeles counties. She volunteered as a leader for the specific recovery group for abused women at Saddleback Church, Lake Forest Campus, as well as homeless breakfast outreaches, and she assisted the singles ministry at Free Chapel. In addition, Karin volunteered at Chino's prison for a year.

Fueled by her dream to help others in need, she furthered her education and obtained certification in Gerontology Activity Leadership. Karin has an Alcohol and Drug Certification as well as a Human Services Certification completed in 2017. She is working on a Mental Health Certification which will be completed by the end of 2017. She is pursuing a Bachelor in Human Services.

Karin worked for Hospice Touch assisting the dying and their loved ones, as well as organizing and further developing her vision of a shelter that can meet the needs of the growing local homeless population. Through working with battered women, she learned the importance of giving these hurting people the care they require to become productive and independent. Karin has a plan and business idea for the misplaced to provide a safe place for families. She wants to give them the care and abilities needed to be successful on having the tools toward self-actualization. There is a Chinese proverb that says: “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” She believes to “reach for the impossible.”

Karin's own personal experience with overcoming the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis actually motivated her to help others live the best lives they can and never ever give up hope.

Marcia Caine, Secretary

Marcia has been a legal assistant and paralegal in Orange County for the past 26 years.

Her heart for the homeless came from working on a case with her former employer in which he represented a number of homeless men and women in an action against the City of Santa Ana for disposing of their belongings. Marcia had a lot of interaction with the clients, and her eyes were opened to their situation. Marcia’s opportunity to serve in ministries for the displaced came when a group of members from her choir, the Saddleback Gospel Praise Choir, formed a group to travel and sing for various homeless outreaches, one of which was the On a Wing and a Prayer Ministry.

Marcia continues to sing with the choir and Praise Ensemble on a weekly basis, and also serves as a volunteer leader at Saddleback Church’s Food Pantry Distribution Center every Saturday morning.

Her desire is to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, helping to bring the Gospel to every man and woman she meets, caring for the lonely and forgotten, lifting people’s spirits, and hopefully helping to change their lives in some way.

Tammy Anderson, Volunteer Coordinator

I was born in Los Angeles. My family raised me up in church; it seems almost from the incubator forward. When I was in my twenties, I started to rebel. I begin to experience meth and smoking cigarettes. This eventually led to becoming homeless and living in shelters. After a long time of struggles, I ended up at The Salvation Army. There God started to work on my issues and used the staff from The Salvation Army to mould me and make me whole again.

Today I’m 12 years clean and sober. I have become a Commercial Driver for the county and assist seniors. With my experiences on the street and enrolling in college, I plan to further my desire and vision to become a drug and alcohol counsellor to give the lost and hurting a hand up, showing them that they can get through their predicament just like I have.

I became involved with On a Wing and a Prayer Ministries on an Easter Sunday Service at a shelter assisting the homeless. This has been many years ago, and I knew this was my way to give back. I’m now a volunteer coordinator with this ministry. I hope to give my all to help people struggling and living at the shelters where God is leading this ministry to help them.
